Volcan Poas

Poas Volcano is an active 8885′ volcano which last erupted in April of 2017.  Visitors and residents had to be evacuated.  The drive to the visitor center takes about 50 minutes from Alajuela.  From the visitor center, there is a 1/4 mile paved path which takes visitors to the viewing platform.  From here, one can see the crater which is about 1 mile across and 1,050 below the rim of the volcano.  The rest of the park is inaccessible due to the damage from the recent eruptions.
