This was a guided rafting trip on the Rio Pacuare with the outfit Rios Tropicales. They provide shuttle services from the San Jose area to the river operations center and back. Once on site, you’ll enjoy a traditional Costa Rican buffet breakfast before heading off to the put-in location. The rafting trip takes between 3-5 hours and covers about 19 miles of Class III-IV whitewater through incredible rainforest, cascades, waterfalls, and rapids. At the end of the trip, you’ll be served a hot lunch before being taken back to your point of origin. All the guides and drivers were professional, and I would highly recommend them for your next adventure in Costa Rica.

Put-in location

Warming up under the sun while enjoying the views

The first mile or so is brisk flat water

There are many tributaries cascading into the Pacuare

Nearing the end of the trip
The following photos were taken by the Rios Tropicales photographers. They capture some of the action of paddling on whitewater. Nobody in our group fell overboard, and everyone did their part paying attention to the guide and doing their part. It was a great experience, and towards the end, we had the opportunity to jump in the water and swim or float down the river.

Now you see me…

…now you don’t

And more rapids…
