Cerro Pelado, located in the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste, rises 2165′ above sea level. It is a popular hiking destination. This part of the country is relatively flat and open country, very reminiscent of the hills around the Bay Area. Finding the start of the trailhead is a bit complicated. We had to drive on some dirt roads which weren’t well marked, crossing several streams and rocky terrain. A 4×4 vehicle would have been great, but it was not necessary. The Toyota Corolla managed to get us there albeit slowly.
